At the site of the Onagawa nuclear power plant in northern Japan, waves can be heard lapping on nearby shores. While the Onagawa reactor was safely shut down, a meltdown occurred at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant 180 kilometers off the coast. After the disaster, Japan shut down all of its nuclear reactors. Since then, only a few have been reopened. Onagawa was one of those nuclear plants that were shut down.
