It's been less than a month since South African scientists first identified the latest worrisome Covid-19 variant, Omicron. In just a few weeks, Omicron may have spread to nearly every country in the world and is now the dominant variant in several countries, including the United Kingdom, Denmark, Norway and parts of southern Africa. Such a rapid spread leaves no doubt that Omicron will soon replace Delta, the variant currently causing the most Covid cases worldwide. Scientists at Imperial College London explain what this means for the world in two studies published on 16 December.
